Precious Daughter will be two years old next month and today was the second time that I slapped her hand. It was three and a half hours ago and I still feel bad about it. She broke away from me as I was putting her into the car and ran into the street (we’re in the mall parking lot). I screamed at the top of my lungs but she laughed as she was sprinting away from me. Thank the Lord it was a dead Monday evening. I slapped her hand and told her to never do that again. She just looked at me and then started wailing. My mother also spared the rod. In fact I only received two spankings in my entire childhood — and both were because I think I scared her. I guess I’m repeating her ways but my main fear is that our daughter doesn’t even make the connection between her slapped hand and running away from me in the street. We’ll see.

Yeah, at her age, there could be a disconnect. I remember having parking lot moments with both of my kids, but they were older, and I took away privileges (in T’s case, it was a movie we were about to go see). But…I know that kind of experience can be terrifying. Hugs, Mama…
Wow…I’ve known you for over two years????
