The “Bitch” in the house!
I have an article in the current (summer) issue of Bitch magazine. The article is about why black women don’t tend to write “momoirs” (mommy memoirs).

If you’re not familiar with Bitch, the mag bills itself as the “feminist response to pop culture”. In addition to my piece, which I’m quite proud of, you’ll also find in this issue an article by a woman who finds feminist inspiration from the Bible, and a piece which discusses “why Prince is the biggest male feminist rock star of the last 25 years…kinda.”
Included with my piece is a sidebar-ish article about the lack of diversity inside the “established” mommy blogosphere, written by Veronica Arreola (vivalafeminista.blogspot.com).
I don’t know if you can find the mag at B&N and the like; I’ve seen it at my local food co-op. Maybe Whole Foods carries it too.
Bitch has a website, but they haven’t uploaded stuff from the current issue yet.
Toot-toot!

Veronica: I hesitated to call it a sidebar, because it reads like an article. Great stuff!
From one Bitch to another ;-)…CONGRATS!

I couple of people emailed me to say that B&N carries it, but that they still have the Spring issue out.

Hello - got my issue of Bitch yesterday and thought your article was great; the lack of black, female perspectives is noticeable everywhere, which hopefully indicates an explosion, or at least a flurry of activity, in the near future…

Hi, Jay…thanks for stopping by. I’m glad you enjoyed the article, and I share your wish for greater and more diverse representation of black female voices everywhere!
