Root round-up
Some interesting articles at The Root…
Get Off the *$&(%# Boat, Black People!
I’ve never taken a cruise, and when I think of future international travel, I do plan to be as adventurous as the author suggests. I’ve never understood folks for whom the boat itself was a destination.
“Thurgood”, the musical
Not really, but Laurence Fishburne is featured in a one-man Broadway play about the only black Supreme Court Justice I have any respect for, the late Thurgood Marshall.
Obama, Oprah, and the Whole Transcending Race Thing
From some blog somewhere: “”The support of white women made Oprah her billions. While she has every right to vote and campaign for whomever she wants, she stabbed all women in the back. She used her clout against the first viable white woman. Hope she sinks into oblivion. I will never forget.” Can the pearls be clutched any tighter?

Never been on a cruise actually. One day I suppose. But your comment made me laugh… I never thought about it that way… those folks for whom the boat is THE destination! It’s almost like taking a flight to wherever and spending most of your time on the plane after you get to your eventual destination. Ok, so a plane certainly isn’t as comfy as a ship, which one could say is comparable to a small floating city, and the cruise companies go out of their way to make you feel at home, but it’s pretty much a mode of transportation! I’ve got some stories to tell about what the experience is like for those who live on the islands visited by cruise ships - stories told to me by someone with firsthand experience, but I’ll save those for another time. Suffice it to say that it’s not much fun for them.
I heard Fishburne’s performance is superb! I wouldn’t expect anything less from Morpheus.
Good article on the two Os. I had a similar convo yesterday. I’d be thrilled if Obama wins the nomination, although I’m certainly concerned with what looks like a shift in voter favorites, from Obama to Clinton. I know he’s got a slight edge over Hillary in terms of delegates, but with a few states still left to vote, she could catch him if the pendulum swings. And even if he does win, he’d face a tough challenge against Mr “Straight talk Express” himself, McCain. We’ve got a long way to go in terms of race relations in this country (no surprise). This idea of race transcendence by people like Obama, Oprah, even Tiger Woods and Will Smith, is just a facade! It can’t be healthy for any black person (or any person) to essentially surpress aspects of themselves in order to gain acceptance by the majority, because that’s essentially what people like Obama has had to do… walk that racial tight rope… trying to appease all sides… not to ruffle any feathers. You know Obama agrees with some of what Reverend Wright has said in past sermons… maybe not all of it… But he’s never going to publicly admit to any of that. That will be political suicide! So, I understand that it’s all in essence nothing but a game, which really STINKS! It’s all about strategy, no matter how much bullshit is tossed around. I really just want the whole thing to be over with SOON! I’m getting annoyed with all the rhetoric.

I’d love to hear them. I’ve heard similar murmurings but never any details, and a quick Google search turned up nothing.
And yeah, I want the election to be over yesterday too.
