You have to purify yourself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka…
…or, you can head over to Yvette’s place and check out her tribute to the High Priest of High Heels. She’s compiled a playlist of His Royal Purpleness-related covers and collaborations. Etta James did “Purple Rain”? Who knew?
And whilst over there, dig if you will a 2nd playlist of Post-Purple Rain favorites.
Back when Purple Rain (the flick) first came out, my friend Erika G. and I went to the movies every Saturday for about a month to see it. That same year, when Prince performed on the Grammys, Erika and I called each other and screamed into the phone until we were hoarse. Even with his post-PR stuff, Prince always takes me back to those heady, hormonal 8th grade days.

You and I must be about the same age. I saw “Purple Rain” in the theater on my sixteenth birthday. I am still married to the guy who took me to see it.
My sister still loves Prince so much. He once came to a huge outdoor amphitheater about a hundred miles from us. At the time, my sister was nine months pregnant - and broke and didn’t drive. I bought her the ticket and drove her to the concert. On the way in, there were these huge ropelines, miles long, and my sister needed the portopotty and they wouldn’t let her cross the rope line to go pee, wanted her instead to walk the whole way around. So there I was, yelling at this lady about whether she really was going to make a pregnant lady take the long route to the portopotty. Anyway, the concert was great. Afterwards, on the driving home, my little sister was laughing and said, “Who else is insane enough to drive a woman in her last month of pregnancy to a Prince concert?” And I said, “Hey, my sister needed to go, and I got her there!”
Great memory. Thanks for the trip.

Ceejay, I think you’re about 3 years older, but yep, same generation. Your sister is indeed a die-hard fan, and you are a great sister for indulging her. My younger half-sister just thought I was crazy with all the screaming (she was 3 years younger).
Thanks for stopping by, and I enjoyed perusing your blog!
