Bo Knows: Bomani Jones, Black Blogger of the Week
Bomani Jones is a cyber-buddy of mine, and pretty good people. When we first “met”, the rhythm and strength of his name struck me as begging to be put in short story. So, I did. The Bomani Jones in my story of the same name is the coolest boy in the 8th grade–too bad he’s 15.
But the real Bomani Jones is twenty-something, cool, and smart. His self-titled blog could accurately be called a sports blog, but that wouldn’t do it justice. With one click you get not only sports but social, cultural, and political commentary, musings on music, and in-depth analysis of the latest episode of “The Wire.” Bo delivers on his tagline’s promise: “Real Talk. Nothing Less.” He writes with no apparent agenda, never ranting, with a likable “too cool for school” air about him–though, for the record, he teaches at Duke.
Speaking of Duke, during the whole lacrosse team-stripper debacle, ESPN called on Bomani to do his thing in front of the cameras, and we learned that in addition to being a skilled wordsmith, Bo gives good TV too.
In addition to teaching, blogging, and sportswriting for various outlets, Bo also hosts a radio show, Sports Saturday with Bomani Jones, 9-noon EST.
