Countdown to 32 Days of Black History
We once again extend our invitation to bloggers to join us in this effort. The more, the merrier.
In case you haven’t heard, my friend Yvette and I are hosting a blogathon to celebrate Black History Month. We’ve got a plethora (love that word) of posts planned. Here’s a sneak-peek at some of what we’ll be blogging about:
*Teaching kids about black history
*Commentary on black arts and artists: books and writers, film, music, TV
*Black to the Future: Spotlight on up-and-coming black folks, movers and shakers, trailblazers, ones to watch
*Black Blogs and Bloggers We Love
*Back in the Day: Our Family Stories, What the Grown Folks Taught Us about Blackness, Racism, and How to Be
* Black Life in America before 1954
*Africa is a Continent: Spotlight on issues and artists
* Beyond Rosa and Martin: Our Unsung Heroes
*Fun stuff: Memes, Trivia, “Are You Smarter Than a Black Fifth Grader?”
Yvette is not playing, y’all. I just peeped her first entry, and it’s nice. We plan to devote each Friday of this effort to music, and Yvette will be kicking things off tomorrow with a “Protest and Social Commentary” playlist.
I see I’m going to have to bring my A-game.
Speaking of A-games…we’ve got some first-rate guest bloggers lined up for your reading and mind-stroking pleasure. Confirmed to grace our pages are:
My dear friend Tambay Obenson aka “TAO” aka “The Great Tambini,” most recently known as the self-proclaimed “only stimulus package this country will ever need.” A cinephile’s cinephile, Tambay keeps his finger on the pulse of black cinema, and cinema in general, with The Obenson Report.
Yvette and I also look forward to turning our spots over to our cyber-buddy Ed Brown, better known in the blogosphere as DarkStar. A two-time participant on NPR’s News and Notes Bloggers’ Roundtable, Ed blogs about “media misrepresentations of the American “Black community,” Black politics, politics in general, and whatever else [he wants] to mentally masturbate about.” (Alrighty, Ed. Just leave the place the way you found it, please.)
You’ll also hear from my new cyber-sis, Tami Winfrey Harris who blogs at What Tami Said. Tami offers “musings on a mixed up world.” She is a womanist, a writer, progressive, Midwesterner, bibliophile, nappy advocate…You know, not an opinionated sort at all, but we’ll see what happens.
Questions? Suggestions? Comments? We welcome them. And please spread the word!

Haha… I’m sitting in my office laughing at your various labels for me… I didn’t realize anyone paid attention to my MySpace status updates :o)
Thanks for the afternoon giggles…
Just had a thought… “giggles” - I paused after I typed the word above. Do guys giggle? I feel like it’s a word usually associated with women, not men. Women giggle… men chuckle. Yes? No?

Tambay:
Men guffaw.

@Christina: A double whammy, indeed. Glad you are feeling better, and if you didn’t stray from the stated path, I would think you were still feverish.
I will link to you in tomorrow’s post.
