I agree with your points about the presidency. I believer presidents have a greater capacity to do harm than they do to affect lasting change of the type that individuals will find notable in their every day lives (and pocketbooks). Also, cynic that I am, I feel like compromise is the name of the game, and so we will never actually get what (who) we “pay” (vote) for. I’m holding out for a politician that doesn’t sound like a politician…

I’m not a citizen, so I can’t vote. And even if I could, I don’t know just how active I would be, if at all. I recently started pondering why anyone would really want the job (President of these united states), other than to maybe enjoy being the most popular, powerful kid on every block, for better/worse. I just don’t know if anyone truly committed to fighting for real change would be (or should be) interested in assuming the role of America’s president. One is likelier to be most effective from the outside. All the candidates seem rather interchangeable to me. In an earlier discussion today, I came to the realization that maybe it’s the system, not the people, that needs to be up for election every 4 years. So, instead of Clinton, Obama et al, the candidates would be the various forms and systems of government - democracy, socialism, communism, anarchy, capitalism, fascism, authoritarianism, etc, and the various hybrids and amalgamations of each and all. That could be interesting and fun! There might even be less apathy and thus higher voter participation :o)

I really think Obama will win the dems nomination, and go on to be elected the big cheese, which wouldn’t necessarily follow the usual hierarchy of power in this country - white men, white women, black men, black women.
